My next big study project in realism style, inspired by the Concept Art for Cycle Frontier.
(which can be found here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/G8W01W)
I already had a study project with a woman in fantasy look, so it was clear for me that my next study should be the complete opposite, namely a sci-fi military guy. When I encountered those concepts for Cycle Frontier I really liked them, so I chose one of them to work on. I really wanted him to look like he's been on the mission for a longer time already. So I made sure that there dirt smears on the face, dried rain or water spots, dirt in crevices, stained and damaged metal and more...
To practice on my industry performance I gave myself a time limit again. 4-5 weeks. Just to see what I would come up with in the end. Of course there are a few things to correct here and there, but with the time I had I am quite happy nonetheless.
I included various shots and videos of different progress stages. The upper part is the finished stuff. Further down you'll find progress images.
I only needed 2 texture sets/2 new master materials for Unreal for the clothes and props. Stuff like eyes, hair and skin already have presets/master materials (stuff like skin basecolor and normals are of course remade). I always try that I work for better performance. So it was clear to me to limit my texture sets.
I'll let this piece speak for itself. I learned a lot again and had fun. The only thing that irritates me is the quality loss when filming these videos. Otherwise I am quite happy with what I produced here. Hope you like it too.
